    • ]]>     Back in the day at university I used to run a copy of Norton Systemworks on my PC.  One of my favourite features was a defrag tool that moved regularly accessed files to the front of my hard drive.  The theory here was that these files could be accessed faster because the disc heads didn’t need to move as far.

    I have seen a similar feature for a while, and I assumed it was because with modern hard drives it didn’t really matter where on the disk files were stored; as long as they were all in the same place and not fragmented.  However, Ultimate Defrag allows you to move regularly used files to the fastest sections of the disc.  I’m not sure how important this is in this day and age, but it’s worthwhile checking out, particularly as the growth in file sizes stored seems to be outstripping developments in hard drive technologies.
