Amazon Kindle is a great attempt by Amazon to corner the market in electronic books. It’s wafer thin at 1/3 of an inch, making it the same thickness as a magazine. It’s being pushed hard by Amazon and could be the next big thing.

As part of the Kindle service there’s a list of blogs that Kindle users can subscribe to for a fee, typically $1.99 per month. To be listed, blog owners have to register and setup their blogs and if your blog is subscribed to you get 30% of the revenues.

Now I’m not saying this is going to pay off your mortgage, but given that it only takes 2 mins to do it’s definitely worthwhile.

As I started to investigate how TNX works, I began to realise that TNX offers a great new way for publishers to monitize their sites and for advertisers to drive more traffic to their sites, as well as improving search engine listings.

TNX Services For Advertisers

By purchasing links on TNX.net publishers get their links displayed on relevant pages, as ads are booked at a per page level rather than at a per site level. TNX make it easy for advertisers to locate appropriate pages, as once a publisher adds a site it is indexed and automatically categorized. All an advertiser has to do is select which categories they wish to advertise in and TNX automatically places the ads. Over 30m pages are available for adverts, so the categories come in handy!

Sparky: New Official Firefox Alexa Rank Toolbar

Trying to improve your Alexa Rank can be important if you are a site owner, as some advertisers use Alexa Ranks to decide where to spend their advertising dollars. I’ve been running this site for around 9 months now, and although I didn’t start running it to make money it is actually generating enough money now to pay for a few nights out a month. I decided today to see if I could find ways to improve the revenue generation, without ruining the user experience.

I noted that around 60% of my readers are still using Internet Explorer and not Firefox, so I decided to look for a way to promote Google Adsesne Firefox Referrals to non-Firefox readers only, so that they can benefit from the best browser out there, whilst I make up to $1 per user that I convert and educate.

Eventually I found a very simple way to do this. To only show a Firefox referral ad to non-Firefox users just add this code to your site where you want you Firefox referral ad to be displayed:

How To Improve Your Alexa Rank

Despite the site traffic for One Tip A Day continuing to grow, my poor old Alexa Rank is actually going up not down! This isn’t good as a lot of advertisers use Alexa Ranks to decide where to spend their marketing dollars, so improving an Alexa Rank can be important.

I think I’m suffering because Alexa calculates Alexa Ranks based on the data it gets back from users who have installed the Alexa Toolbar for Internet Explorer, so if those users don’t visit your site your Alexa Rank won’t improve.

So, following Connected Internet’s advice I’m implementing a few steps to try and improve my Alexa Rank. If you want to improve your Alexa Rank at the same time as helping your friends and me as well, then please implement Step 1 and 3:

Install the Alexa toolbar or Firefox’s SearchStatus extension and set your blog as your homepage. This is the most basic step
Add an Alexa rank widget on your website
Encourage others to use the Alexa toolbar. This includes friends, fellow webmasters as well as site visitors/blog readers
Use Alexa redirects on your website URL. Try this: http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?www.onetipaday.com. Replace onetipaday.com with the URL for your website. Leave this redirected URL in blog comments as well as forum signatures. This redirect will count a unique IP address once a day so clicking it multiple times won’t help
