Transfer Data Up to 2GB For Free
File hosting sites provide a great facility to internet users. By uploading files which are simply too large to email, you can share them with your recipient. Conceptually this form of sharing is excellent. However the practical application is where the trouble begins. Today’s file hosting sites have a number of nuisances associated with them: slow upload and download speeds, file deletion without notifying the uploader, and creating a publicly viewable URL which can be accessed by anybody, compromising the security of the content.
Currently at least one of these problems can be found with any free file hosting site. There is one website though that rises above its competition and come close to the ideal file hosting site – WeTransfer.

WeTransfer is a file hosting site with the following features:
- Not only is it free but it requires no registration or signups.
- WeTransfer offers great upload and download speeds.
- You can add up to 20 email addresses for recipients.
- For each file upload, the maximum permissible file size is 2GB.
- Your files are stored for two weeks.
- The recipient can only access files according to a Download button received in the email. No URL is disclosed and no third party/user can access your files. Your data is kept private. The site does not even scan your files, respecting your privacy. The rule is “You trust us, we trust you.”
Providing all those impressive features is definitely not inexpensive. One does wonder that if WeTransfer is truly free, how the site makes money. The answer lies in the background: the background of the WeTransfer changes timely and is actually promoting one company or the other. In the image above you can see ‘Philips’ typed in the bottom right which means the background image is actually an advertisement for Philips.
In the case that you own a company and want to have a WeTransfer page with a fixed custom background, you pay WeTransfer and they provide the file hosting service with the background you specify. Therefore the money is tied purely with the background. For users who are simply looking to upload their files, all that needs to be done is choose the file to be uploaded, enter the recipient’s and sender’s emails, and add an optional message; the advertising background change in back, not affecting your work.
After the file has been successfully uploaded, confirmation emails are sent to sender and recipient; only through the email can the uploaded file be accessed.
Providing a fast and impressively secure way to host your large files online, WeTransfer is one site that deserves to be bookmarked…..
