Easier Windows 7 MKV Playback With Divx MKV Project

Out of the box Windows 7 includes much better support for codecs allowing most tips of files to be played.  However, the support for mkv files within Windows 7 isn’t great.  Because of changes in the way files are played back in Windows 7, using codec packs that worked well with Windows Vista and are based on DirectShow isn’t easy.

Thankfully Divx have stepped in to help, putting together a new set of mkv codecs that utilise the new Windows 7 playback system (Windows Media Foundation).  With the Divx Labs MKV project there’s no messing around changing permissions or editing files.  All you have to do is install the DivxLabs MKV project and you will have instant playback of mkv files within Windows 7.  The codecs even provide DVXA hardware acceleration support, so if you have a good graphics card you will get even better performance.
