What Were You Doing In 1983?

I just found an amazing picture via FosFor gadgets of a 1983 office set based around an Atari 800. The picture really took me back, and funnily enough I still have a my Atari in a box in my closet.

I love the ‘cool’ digital clock next to the TV! I recognise the tape machine above the floppy drives (when disks actually were floppy!), but what’s the unit next to it?

Man, I miss the good old days of computing. Piracy in those days was a military operation, and no-one even thought of it as stealing. I used to put two tape recorders as we didn’t have tape-2-tape on pillows to try and minimize vibrations, and tip toe out of the room while I copied games. It used to be really annoying when halfway through trying to load a game I’d suddenly stumble across a recording of my Dad singing in the shower!

Next to the tape machine is the external modem.  Looks like a US Robotics 1200/2400 baud unit.

In ‘83 I had a DEC Rainbow and an Eagle PC - both running the  CPM o/s.

    Great Pic.
