How To Fix Devices That Have Been Dropped In Water

View Comments April 14, 2008 | Tony Williams

blackbery drying in riceSometimes old wives cures are the best and there is no need to despair the next time you spill something on your expensive phone or mp3 player, or drop it in water. The solution is simple – just leave it overnight in a bowl of rice!

Rice is a natural desiccant which will absorb the excess moisture. If you are unlucky enough to soak your device:

  • Remove the batter if you can and dry it separately
  • Put the phone and battery in bowls of rice – don’t stir or shake
  • After 24 hours your device should be ‘ready’
