How To Remove Annoying Sample Music Folder From Vista Media Center

View Comments April 10, 2008 | Tony Williams

If you’re a Windows Media Center user, then you are have probably given up trying to remove the annoying Sample Photos, Sample Music and Sample Videos folders.  It took me ages to find a way to find out how to remove them permanently from MCE, and the solution I found in the end was very simple.

All I had to do was delete the following folders to permanently delete the Sample Music, Sample Photos and Sample Videos folders:

  • c:\users\public\public pictures\sample pictures
  • c:\users\public\public videos\sample videos
  • c:\users\public\public music\sample music

The change should be instantaneous.

I know this post is rather old but your solution is only a temporary one.  Once you reboot the PC they will all be created again.  I just want them gone forever.

  4. Hi It does work – you just need to run ‘add to library’ in WMP if you have a big library for it to pickup the change

i deleted the files as suggested and some stuff disappeared, but some were recreated even without a reboot. to eliminate the rest of the crap i had to go to the files property settings and select the hidden option and applied it to all sub-folders. this has worked for me so far.

……You may have to adjust the security settings by adding or removing certain permissions.
