Stop Applications Automatically Starting With Vista
I get so annoyed when I install applications only to find that other programs are installed in the background and set to run automatically at startup, without asking my permission. Major culprits are QuickTime, Adobe Acrobat, iTunes and anything from Logitech.
If you want to stop applications running at startup with Windows Vista, there are two ways you can go about this:
Using the System Configuration Utility:
- Go to ‘Start/Run’ enter ‘msconfig’ and hit Enter
- Click on the ‘Startup’ tab
- Uncheck items that you do want to auto-start and click ‘OK’
Or, use Windows Defender:
- Go to ‘Start/Run’ enter, ‘Windows Defender’ and hit Enter
- Click on the ‘Tools’ from the top menu bar
- Click on ‘Software Explorer’ and select ‘Show for All Users’
- Select an application to either ‘Remove’ or ‘Disable’

For msconfig
Start button -> RUN and type ‘msconfig’
Yes I had to be THAT guy to point out a typo.
Thanks for the tip

there’s no RUN under the START menu on Vista so this doesn’t help. (At least on my 2006 windows vista there isn’t one).
