I had to send my Amplifier back for repairs the other day and it took me around 30 minutes to unplug it, because of the mess of cables I had behind my AV setup. I had even more problems putting my system back together when I got my new amp as I couldn’t work out which cable went where.
I wish I had one of the many label printers available from cableorganizer.com, who have just requested a sponsored review. Available for sale are a range of label printers and automatic labelers which can help prevent wires from becoming entangled and generally mixed up.
Some of the labellers are quite advanced. Take the Brother P-Touch PT-1650 pictured above for instance. This automatic labeller uses flexible ID tape that can add labels with graphics and/or bar codes up to 1″ wide. Another model available is the Brother P-Touch PT-80, which allows labels to created for anything from applications to storage containers.
I would love to have something like this to label up my wires, but I think they are more suited to big operations. I think if I was buying a device for use around my apartment I would opt for the Dymo Label Buddy. This simple device can be used to create labels for anything from tools, CD cases, files etc. Best of all it doesn’t need any batteries to create labels on 3/8″ tape, and it only costs $7.99.
Other labeling options are available if you are on a tight budget. Wire markers including unitags that just clip onto wires and ‘quick pinch’ markers that clip on to wires to remove clutter and many other options are all available for under $10.
