Repair Scratched CDs and DVDs With Toothpaste….

I’m posting this tip because I really hope that it works. Apparently a very good way to remove scratches from CDs and DVDs is to use toothpaste - this is not some old wives tale. Just check out the video below to see this in action.

To remove scratches all you have to do is smear toothpaste over the disc, wash it off with running water, and then dry the disc with a soft towel or T-shirt.

If you are brave enough to try this please let me know!

I’ve tried it - it does work for smaller scratches. But for big gouges like my kids make, forggeddaboutit - nothing will save those! ;)

i think this is BS. I tried it on a PS2 game.

the SkipDr things actually do work pretty well though.

it might depend on what kind of toothpaste you use. the idea is to grind down the plastic layers that are scratched, since there are way more layers of plastic on a cd than are needed for playback. something like that.

if it’s scratched on top and light shines through, it’s a coaster though. doesn’t matter what you do.

Yes it does work when the scratches are little, but do remember to copy it the first time it works because it did not work when i tried it the second time.

I posted the same video over on my blog. I’m still needing to try it, but I have plenty to practice on, that’s for sure.
