Run Programs Automatically As Administrator In Windows Vista

Top Tip: Click here to run a free scan for common PC errors

Windows Vista has amazing in-built security, and although I find the number of popup alerts acceptable, what does bug me is that Vista repeatedly asks me the same questions. I haven’t quite worked out how to stop Vista doing this, but I have worked out how to automatically run programs as an administrator.

To do this all you have to do is the following:

  • Right-click on the shortcut for the program
  • Click on the Advanced button
  • In the Dialog window that pops up check the box ‘Run As Administrator’

Once you’ve done this that particular application will always run as administrator, which can help solve compatibility problems.

For all of those wondering why the run as admin box is greyed out, you have to go to account management and change the account type from standard to administrator to be able to run the program as a full on administrator
