How To Improve The Battery Life Of Your Phone
Although modern phone batteries don’t benefit as much as old batteries from conditioning, there are still a lot of things you can do to make your phone battery last longer:
- Always charge new phone batteries for at least 10 hours for the first charge
- Don’t use the vibrate function on your phone as it’s a big drain on power
- Try to only charge the battery when it is completely empty
- Always give the battery a full charge. Avoid partial charges if you can
- Don’t use the backlight and keypad tones if you don’t need them
- Turn your phone off when you’re not using it e.g. sleeping
- Turn off blutooth (and wi-fi) if you have it, when not in use
Also, if you are not charging your phone then please disconnect the charger – think of the environment!
Update 05/10/07:
Li-Ion batteries only last for two or three years, and there’s no way to condition them. Unlike Ni-Cd batteries,
they have no memory, and even prefer to be recharged frequently, rather than fully discharged.

Hey I agree with most of your thoughts on this.
But the vibrate feature is very vital to me, traveling in a noisy city like New York does not make the phone sound too good, so the vibrate it one feature i would never turn off.

This piece of information is outdated. All new mobile phones have batteries using li-ion materials. The lifetime of these batteries benefit from regular charging, that keeps them around 70% charged at all times. Completely draining them is damaging and definitely does not benefit their longevity.
Thanks Tim. I’d read in places that li-ion batteries still benefit from conditioning, but I did a quick Google and found this:
