Install K-Lite Codec Pack To Solve Video Playback Problems

Top Tip: Click here to run a free scan for common PC errors

Sometimes playing videos on your PC isn’t easy, particularly when they have been downloaded off the internet. This is normally because your PC doesn’t have the necessary codecs installed to play the video file in question. Codecs and DirectShow filters are needed for encoding and decoding (playing) audio and video formats.

The quickest way to ensure that your PC can play all video files is to install the K-Lite Codec Pack. The K-Lite Code Pack is a collection of almost every codec under the sun, that will allow you to play all your video and audio files.

Is the quality better than normal WMP?

Big thumbs up here for Media Player Classic + ffdshow, it's all done on CPU so you get no AVIVO (Ati) or Purevideo (nVidia) accelleration but quality is very high.

VLC player is good :) I use it a lot but someone recommended CCCP http://www.cccp-project.net/ to me and its a very good alternative! It utilises the 'new' version of Media Player Classic (Both MPC and Zoom are bundled but you can choose to not install it) and works very well.
  • I think so, but VLC is a good way to solve the problem as well.

I like K-Lite as it always uninstalls old versions when you update it.
  • I usually find that by installing VLC Player, it will normally cover most codecs and ensure I can play them correctly and then install this is I then come across a video I still can't play, but I've not had that for a while now.

Have just been lucky or is this still a widespread issue?
