Connected Internet has written a great article entitled ‘The Do’s And Don’ts For Driving Traffic To A New Website’. The site author has singled out the options that would benefit new sites, more than just writing a generic list of steps a site owner can do.
The one I can resonate the most with is ‘Don’t Use A Naff Template’. I spent many a night trying to find a template I liked for One Tip A Day. I wanted something that would look nice and clean, which would also be easy to maintain as this is my first blog. I think this current template is about the 15th I’ve tried, but I’m finally happy so I can now concentrate on developing the readership and quality of the tips.
A summary of the ‘Dos And Don’ts’ Are listed below:
- Do Submit Articles To Aggregators
- Do Email Big Bloggers
- Don’t Use A Naff Template
- Do Ask For Advice
- Don’t Waste Your Time With Link Exchanges
- Do Write Comments – Lots of Them
- Do Make Buddies – There’s Safety In Numbers
- Don’t Waste Time With Blog Directories
- Do Add Your Feed To My Yahoo! And Google
- Do Leave Trackbacks
- Do Link To Bigger Sites
- Don’t Use Long Titles
- Do Add Tags To All Posts
- Do Keep Posting
