How To Streamrip Online Radio Stations

Streamrip and Streamripping were terms I’d never heard of until last week, and now I can’t live without it. Streamripping is when you save mp3 files from internet radio streams to your hard drive. I love it as it’s a great source of new music.

In order to Streamrip (in some countries this might be illegal) you need to do the following:

  1. Download and install the latest version of the streamripper program available at sourceforge.net as well as the winamp 5 plugin
  2. After installing the plugin you will be promped to start winamp with the streamripper plugin. Select ‘yes’ and you see the standard winamp screens and the additional streamripper window.
  3. A streamripper icon should also appear in the taskbar next to your clock. Right-click it and select ‘File / Output’
  4. Choose a directory where you want the mp3 recordings to be saved.
  5. Now you are ready to start saving streams. Browse to your favorite site (shoutcast.com and xiph.org are two good ones)
  6. When the stream starts in, streamripper will show a dialog box to see if you want to rip the stream. Press start and the streamripper will start recording the stream
  7. To stop recording just close winamp
