How To Streamrip Online Radio Stations
Streamrip and Streamripping were terms I’d never heard of until last week, and now I can’t live without it. Streamripping is when you save mp3 files from internet radio streams to your hard drive. I love it as it’s a great source of new music.
In order to Streamrip (in some countries this might be illegal) you need to do the following:
- Download and install the latest version of the streamripper program available at sourceforge.net as well as the winamp 5 plugin
- After installing the plugin you will be promped to start winamp with the streamripper plugin. Select ‘yes’ and you see the standard winamp screens and the additional streamripper window.
- A streamripper icon should also appear in the taskbar next to your clock. Right-click it and select ‘File / Output’
- Choose a directory where you want the mp3 recordings to be saved.
- Now you are ready to start saving streams. Browse to your favorite site (shoutcast.com and xiph.org are two good ones)
- When the stream starts in, streamripper will show a dialog box to see if you want to rip the stream. Press start and the streamripper will start recording the stream
- To stop recording just close winamp
If you are feeling more adventurous then gHacks have put together a great guide to getting more free music from the internet.
